Published in 2024, Split Shift - Busing and Desegregation details the forced integration of Alabama's Talladega High School in 1970 - 16 years after the 1954 Brown Supreme Court desegretation court order.  To accommodate the increased student body numbers, the author and her classmates were required to attend all classes on two separate five-hour shifts - some in the morning  and some in the afternoon.  The decade of the turburlent 60s was just ending. Protests for equal rights, women's rights, LGBT rights, even the Vietnam War were still taking place around the world. Quite naturally, the time bomb would also affect area high schools. Fighting was inevitable.  Sadly, many students were permanently suspended and never granted diplomas or due process for re-instatement. The fight continues with Split Shift - to right the wrongs that were done.
